Villas, Palazzi, and Urban Rooms in Rome
Design Unit Research and Publication of the in-depth study of Urban Fabric of Rome
Design Unit Research and Publication of the in-depth study of Urban Fabric of Rome
This publication, fully written and edited by our design unit, explores the themes of diplomacy inherent in the Roman palazzo and urban villa. Rome’s piazze, palazzi, churches, and villas form a finely balanced sequence of urban rooms throughout the city - a highly visual composition that has shaped Rome’s evolution into the city we know today.
Rather than focusing on the typology of contemporary diplomatic buildings, the publication examines the spatial arrangements and urban relationships between piazze, palazzi, villas, and churches. These relationships are what define the spirit of power in Rome. The book is intended for architects, students, and anyone intrigued by the city’s delicate—and often fragile—relationship with authority and influence.
